China is home to the world’s largest wind turbine situated off the coast of Fujian Province.

The turbine, located within the Zhangpu Liuao Phase 2 offshore wind farm, showcases significant advancements in renewable energy infrastructure.

This specific turbine is unparalleled in size. It boasts a rotor diameter measuring approximately 827 feet.

To further put into perspective, its hub ascends to a height of 479 feet. These dimensions position the turbine as a noteworthy player in the world of renewable energy.

Performance During Typhoon Haikui

During Typhoon Haikui, the turbine showcased its robustness. In the course of one day, it generated 384.1 megawatt-hours of electricity.

To quantify its impact, this amount of power can supply electricity to an estimated 170,000 homes, as detailed by the South China Morning Post.

Most wind turbines face a challenge with strong wind speeds. Typically, speeds reaching 53 miles per hour prompt turbines to lock their blades, preventing system overloads.
